We are honored to have State Treasurer Tobias Read and Josh Harwood, City Economist for the City of Portland, share their insights on:
• Projections for the Oregon economy
• Impact the economy will have on budgets
• Support of entrepreneurship/start-ups in Oregon

Panelists:
Tobias Read is Oregon’s 29th state treasurer. He brings a wide range of public-sector and private-sector experience to the office. He worked for two U.S. Treasury secretaries, at the Nike Corporation and has most recently served as a state representative in Oregon for a decade. As state treasurer, Tobias’ first priority is to focus on managing Oregon’s money responsibly and with transparency. He received a bachelor’s degree from Willamette University before earning his MBA at the University of Washington.

Josh Harwood serves as the City Economist for the City of Portland, providing financial forecasts for city budgeting, as well as advising on a variety of city finance issues. Prior to joining the City in 2010, he worked for the Oregon Office of Economic Analysis and served as Chief Economist in the Colorado Governor's Office. Josh currently serves on the State Revenue Forecast Advisory Committee and Government Finance Officers Association’s Budget Committee. He has a bachelor’s degree from Willamette University and a master’s degree in economics from the University of Colorado.

Moderator:
Jim Coonan is a highly successful entrepreneur who has been deeply involved with Oregon’s entrepreneurial community, having previously served as chair of OEN and the Portland Angel Network, which led to the development of the Oregon Angel Fund. Jim also served as Director of Business Alliances for the Oregon University System and with Vice Chancellor Diane Vines was lead staff for the Economic Development Joint Boards Working Group, a collaboration between the state’s university system and the state’s Economic Development Commission. Jim has also played a key role in the development of many of the state’s early-stage funds and is an investor in many of the state’s start-ups. Coonan graduated from Stanford University and holds an MBA from Northwestern University.
